Derrick Mason
3 Principles Mentor | Leadership Trainer | Wellbeing Facilitator | Health and Wellness Coach | Inspirational Speaker | Personal/Business Creative Consultant | Insight to Wellbeing Curriculum Facilitator
Derrick is a transformative facilitator, mentor, and director with extensive expertise in the Three Principles understanding. His journey, rooted in personal transformation, has led him to empower individuals, facilitate workshops, and contribute to groundbreaking programs in areas such as knife crime prevention and well-being.
Since engaging with Beyond Recovery whilst in 2017 in HMP Onley where he first saw the nature of his thinking.
Nine months after his release he faced a big turning point when he started engaging with Beyond Recovery attending every get-together Beyond Recovery had, to eventually getting the chance in 2019 to facilitate a successful knife crime prevention programme at HMP Nottingham through our work with the Nottinghamshire Violence Reduction Unit, the Police and Crime Commissioner at the time said “this approach was truly groundbreaking”.
Derrick now facilitates workshops for not-for-profit organisations with Beyond Recovery like ARA No Knives Better Lives. As well as helping to develop The Insight To Wellbeing curriculum alongside Beyond Recovery sister organisations The Spark Initiative and The Insight Alliance. Derrick eventually became a director with Beyond Recovery in early 2021.
In 2021 Derrick applied successfully to become a board member of the 3PGC, a global not-for-profit organisation formed at the request of Sydney Banks to maintain the simplicity of this understanding. Derrick sits on the board with Marina Galan, George & Linda Pransky DR Aaron, Turner, Natasha Swerdlof, Christine Heath, Dr Dicken Bettinger, Rob Cook, Deborah Baron, Larry and Judy Sedgman.
Working on things such as the Syd Banks YouTube channel putting together events for the 50th anniversary celebration 1973-2023. Consistently trying to point to each individual having inner truth that shows up for us as wisdom.
In 2020 Derrick Started work with Caroline at A Slice of Happiness and her team working with Watford and Three Rivers Trust with Dacorum Council running their NHS endorsed 3 Principles based online workshops, to work with the home insecure. Derrick was invited to turn up every eight weeks as a guest speaker.
Then in 2021, Derrick got the opportunity to get more consistently involved in the online groups, and in 2022 got to start facilitating in-person workshops in Hemel Hempstead at the South Hill Centre.
In 2022 Derrick started working with The Insight Alliance staff members delivering 1.1 grounding sessions as well as co-facilitating online groups with The Insight Alliance mentors to residents of Maclaren Youth Correctional Facility in Portland Oregon
In 2020 Derrick was also invited to become a non-executive director of Doing What Really Matters a CIC organisation that makes it easier for prison residents to get on the ladder to higher education and also allows the facility to continue studying once they’ve been released.
From the first programme that Derrick took part in HMP Onley where Derrick had the first of many life-changing insights he remembers filling out one of the research questionnaires not really taking much interest. The findings of those questionnaires and follow-up conversations led to two papers being released in peer-reviewed journals Derrick now sees that as a very big part of what we need to assist us in backing up the numbers behind something that is formless.
Derrick has been a part of collecting that information now with most of the workshops he’s involved with are researched by Jeanne Catherine and her team at Coventry University. And in July Derrick will get the chance to speak at the 2023 British Society of Criminology Conference.
